First round of EVERYSEEKER artists announced!

EVERYSEEKER - June 18-21 2020

K’jipuktuk / Halifax, Nova Scotia

We’re thrilled to unveil the first ten acts for EVERYSEEKER (fka OBEY Convention), a four-day festival centering new and adventurous voices in music happening June 18-21 2020 in K’jipuktuk / Halifax. Each year, we present a carefully curated, genre-fluid programme that highlights the fringes of culture and cross pollinates creative energies. Featuring local, national and international talents performing side-by-side without a single note overlapping, EVERYSEEKER is a platform born of punk ethos and cultivated with love and care for the past 13 years.

This year’s instalment, our first as EVERYSEEKER, will feature legendary afrofuturist jazz unit the Sun Ra Arkestra, Portland’s subtle-psych guitar weaver Marisa Anderson, Brooklyn-based Iranian-Canadian sound collagists Saint Abdullah, Texan queer noise explorer claire rousay, Montreal’s industrial violinist Girl Circles, Charlettown’s badass buzzed-about emcee LXVNDR, powerful Mi’kmaq singer and storyteller Michael R. Denny and brilliant Egyptian poet Marwa Helal. We’re also thrilled to be presenting the live premier of A Seperation Of Being, the newest album-length composition from Crousetown, Nova Scotia’s junked-analogue wizard JOYFULTALK (releasing in March on Constellation Records). This special iteration of the project will feature composer Jay Crocker accompanied by the Bela Strings quartet.

With 20+ events sequenced across the weekend, EVERYSEEKER explores new modes of expression and ways of being together. Audience, staff, volunteers and artists work in collaboration, shaping the sonic portal, moving together through alternative and historic spaces within the charming coastal landscape. Beyond concerts, the festival will include educational programs produced by community partners that enlighten, reflect and question some of the sonic properties apparent throughout the weekend.

This year also marks the inaugural Convention Convention, a three-day symposium inviting critical, constructive and progessive thinking around the roles and responsibilities of music festivals and presenters in Canada. This portion of the programme will be free and open to the public. We’re encouraging artists, audience, presenters, industry professionals, EVERYONE to join and contribute to the conversation. More details to come!

Sun Ra Arkestra tickets and a limited number of specially priced Early Bird Passes are available now. Passholders are guaranteed access to the entire festival. Get yours today and join us at the edges of everything!

It is with gratitude that we acknowledge the support of Halifax, Arts Nova Scotia, Heritage Canada, Canada Council For The Arts, the SOCAN Foundation and Propeller Breweries in pursuing this head-trip.
