Many Worlds

Many Worlds is a new ensemble from Andrew MacKelvie, leader of the ambient improvised music ensemble, New Hermitage. MacKelvie and co. are exploring the Hugh Everett/ Erwin Schrödinger Many Worlds Theory of quantum mechanics, a splitting of reality into infinite possible outcomes, and asking "What does this mean for an improvising musician?" What is free will if, from every decision we are presented with, every possible outcome unfolds across an infinite amount of realities blossoming beyond our perception? And so, Many Worlds' compositions are schemes that encourage chance, pattern, and coincidence to arise. Its improvisational philosophy is for the performer to let go and serve the composition of whatever reality they inhabit.
